This book consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction chapter which portrays the overall context of housing policy and the main issues surrounding the housing demand and supply in Korea. The second part explains the historical development of Korean housing policy and the contents of introduced systems mainly before 2010. The third part concentrates on the housing problems that occurred and countermeasures introduced mainly in the 2010s. The structural change of the Korean housing market in recent years can be grasped in this part. Since the housing policy measures introduced and implemented for a prolonged period are unable to be divided by specific period, it seems inevitable that certain cases are mentioned multiple times. The final part is on the future direction of housing policy in Korea for further development.
The main purpose of this book is to aid foreign researchers and policy makers to understand the background and contents of Korean housing policy and to deliver them a possible implication for the development of housing policy in their own countries. As such, the theoretical explanation of the housing market and policy has been reduced to a minimal level. It will be a great pleasure for us if this book can be of help for those who want to understand and utilize the experience and know-how of the Korean government and people.
