Korea’s Ocean Policy:한국의 해양정책

This book presents major issues of Korea's marine governance, coastal resources and space management, marine environment and safety management, marine industry policy, etc. in the course of policy development, pending issues, problems and future directions.

For the sustainable development of the marine, the last frontier of mankind, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and Agenda 21 advises each country to manage the marine and coastal areas. To this end, major countries around the world are strengthening international cooperation. Korea is considered to be the most advanced country in this international effort. I believe that Korea's experience in integrated marine policy will be helpful for other countries.

This book will also be a guide to marine policy for marine policy makers and researchers, and can be used as a textbook for marine policy at universities and graduate schools.

About the Author
Dong-Oh Cho

He graduated from Korea Maritime University in 1973 and has worked for Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) for more than 20 years. Since the establishment of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in 1996, he actively participated in the government's marine policy. He has taught coastal management at the University of Rhode Island Coastal Resource Center (CRC) in the US, and has served as the head of the joint research center for the KMI-KMOU at Korea Maritime University.
He also served as a founding member of the Korea Institute of Marine Environment and Sustainability and served as an editorial writer for the Transportation Newspaper and a columnist for the Fisheries Newspaper Fisheries in Korea. He has published more than 10 SCI international papers and has been published three times (2008, 2010, 2012) on the World Who's Who dictionary. From 2009 to 2013, I taught ocean policy at Korea Maritime University, and the lecture materials of that time became the basis of this book.
