우리는 왜 태어나 무엇을 위해 살며 어디로 가는가.
Why are we born, what do we live for, and where do we go?
우명 선생은 사람이 세상에 태어난 것은 단순히 돈을 벌거나 호의호식하기 위해서가 아니라 인간 완성을 이루어 진리가 되기 위함이라고 말한다. 세상에 태어났으면 왜 사는지, 또 죽으면 어디로 가는지 그 뜻과 이치를 알아야 하고, 진리의 삶을 살아야 한다는 것.
Teacher Woo Myung tells us that the reason why people are born in the world is not simply to make money or to live in comfort, but we are born in order to achieve human completion so that we can become Truth. Once one is born in the world, one needs to know the meaning and principles of why one lives and where one goes after death and more importantly, one needs to live the life of Truth.
<살아서 하늘사람 되는 방법>이라는 제목은 책의 내용을 그대로 함축하고 있다.
The title of the book, , summarizes the contents of the book.
‘살아서’ 즉 지금 이 현실에서, ‘하늘사람’ 하늘의 이치를 따르는 사람으로, 순리의 삶을 살게 ‘되는 방법’을 담고 있다는 것이다.
It contains the way to become ‘a person in heaven’, which means a person who follows the principles of heaven and lives a life of nature’s flow, ‘while living’, in other words, in this reality.
실제 그러한 삶이 가능한 것은, 본래의 우리가 원래 완전한 진리의 존재이기 때문이다.
How such a life is possible in actuality is because our essential nature is originally the existence of Truth which is complete.
현실의 우리는 물질과 명예, 욕망의 노예가 되어 살고 있지만, 본래의 우리는 그렇지 않다는 것. 즉, 살면서 쌓아온 자기중심적인 마음, 스트레스의 원인이 되는 그 인간마음을 버리고 본성을 회복하면 편안하고 자유로운 순리의 삶을 살 수 있으며, 그 방법 또한 제시해주고 있는 것이다.
We are living in the world as slaves of material things, fame and desires but our essential nature is not that way. While living, one has gained a self-centered human mind which is the cause of stress. When one discards the human mind and recovers one’s original nature, then one can live a life of nature’s flow which is comfortable and free. This book presents us the method to live such a life.
<살아서 하늘사람 되는 방법>은 2006년 10월 한국어 초판 발행되었으며, 한국의 대표적인 서점인 교보문고, 예스24, 알라딘에서 인문분야 베스트셀러 2위까지 오른 바 있다.
The Korean first edition of was published in October 2006 and it was ranked up to 2nd place in the best seller’s list of the humanities section in Kyobo, Yes24 and Aladdin bookstores.
2009년 영어로 처음 번역 출간되었고, 이후 9년만인 2018년 4월 미국 Cham Books에서 양장 개정판으로 새로이 발간하였다.
It was translated and published in English for the first time in 2009 and since then, after nine years, Cham Books in the US newly issued a revised hardcover edition.

꿈 깨면 실이 아니듯 사람의 삶이 하룻밤의 꿈인 줄 모르고 산다. 자기의 관념 관습의 틀에서 벗어난 자만이 이 세상의 삶이 꿈인 것을 알 것이다. 참이 되어 보면 자기의 관념과 관습이 모두가 허 자체이고 허상 자체이고 또 그것은 개인의 편협된 생각일 따름이고 자기중심적인 이론 체계이니 참과는 하나도 맞는 것이 없기에 허인 것이라.

When you wake from the dream, you know it is not reality; life is just a night’s dream. When you come out of your own frame of conceptions and behaviors, you will know that life in this world is a dream. Once you become Truth, you will realize that your conceptions and behaviors are false, just false images. You will know that they are just individual narrow thoughts and self-centered principles; all of them are false, far from Truth.

자기중심적인 마음을 없앨 때 또 자기라는 존재가 없어져 진리인 가장 넓고 크고 높고 낮은 마음 가질 때 그 복이 있어 세상의 일체 일들이 다 잘될 것이다. 자기가 없기에 행하는 모든 것이 복 자체이어서 다 이루어질 것이다.

When a person cleanses his self-centered mind and there is no existence of his self, when he has the widest, biggest, highest, and lowest mind, which is Truth, he is blessed and everything in the world will turn out well. Whatever he does would be a blessing because there is no self; everything will be accomplished.

신의 뜻은 일체가 끊어진 없는 마음이다. 신은 살아 있어 천인지 일체를 살리는 것이 신의 뜻이다. 신의 완성은 있음의 일체를 신이 되게 하여 신의 나라에 빛과 에너지로 영원히 살리는 것이 신의 뜻이다. 신과 사람을 둘로 보는 것은 인간의 마음이고 신과 인간은 하나인 완성 자체라.

The will of God is the empty mind, free from everything.
Because God is alive, God’s will is to make heaven, humans, and the earth live.
For God, completion is to make every existing creation God itself and make all creations live forever as the Energy and Light in the kingdom of God; this is the will of God. The human mind sees man and God as being separate, however, man and God are one and completion itself.
