Honoring Life

 

For the past year, God has been placing a heavy burden on my heart to pray for certain areas in Korean society that are not often addressed within the church. And at the core is a desire to honor the life that God has given to us as a gift. Two areas I hope the Church will begin caring more about are abortion and adoption.

 

Abortion

Though abortion is technically illegal in South Korea, there are on average 350,000 reported abortions performed each year, while a National Assembly inspection in October 2009 led to an estimate that more than 1.5 million babies are illegally killed through abortion each year. When a young teenage girl is found to be pregnant, she is kicked out of school and often abandoned by her family. This lack of support leads many young moms to consider abortion as their best alternative. Let's pray that the Church would rise up and become the hands of Jesus to hold these young mothers during their difficult seasons of life.

 

Adoption

The group UNAIDS reported that in 2010, there were over 1.3 million orphans in Korea. It is a shocking statistic, especially when we see how widespread Christianity is in this nation. Even with over 50,000 churches in South Korea, including some of the largest churches in the world, it seems orphans have gone unnoticed within their own nation. Some Christians in America will wait five years and pay up to $50,000 to adopt a child from Korea, while Korean citizens can adopt in this country for free! It is unbelievable to some that Korea could still have orphans without a home when we have so many Christians in this nation. I am praying for an awakening. I am praying for revival.
