I didn't watch Toy Story series before last week. While people had interests in the new book of Longtailbooks, I couldn't begin reading it easily. By my prejudice about animation being childish, I worried that it would not fit for me. My only purpose to pick up the Toy Story is to study English easily, though not enjoyingly.
But now I became a huge fan. For one day I was not only reading the book, but watching the movie series!

It's so funny and touching! I think grownups may have more fan than children because it contains some wit such as the weak point of Ken. :) Andy was full-grown so he had to hand over his toyes to Bonnie, the kind kid. As his own farewell to his faithful toyes, he introduced them to Bonnie one by one. Absorbed with them, I moved into tear.

Favorite Charator

  I love Mr. Potato Head!!!!(unfortunately he's merried... v.v)

He's a man of great wit and courage; he call lotso "furry air freshener"!! I think curses need great wit and creativity. :)

He is probably rich because his wife has more than 30 accesories!!

And he cares about his wife. He stand against the Lotso family and said that no one can take his wife's mouth. What a brave man..

What need more? I fell in love with Potato!!

Movie vs. Book

The movie can have more stories. For example, the book doesn't mention why Andy's toys are uncovered. I got to know by the movie that the telephone was totured into talking.

The book is kind enough to tell inside facts. When Andy said he'll always be with his mother, Woody got to know that the toys would be part of Andy's life by his memories and decided to say good bye to Andy. And.. it's a REAL potato(not a pillow or something) that was concealed under the blanket when Mr. Potato Head escaped from his cubby in the Sunnyside. But it's hard to catch on why Woody decided to move on and what the stuff under the blanket was from the movie.

Briefly, the movie deals with more stories while the book has details.

My recommend? Of course, both of them!!

Wish

Its companion volumes should be published by Longtailbooks.

It was difficult to remember the name of Andy's toys and figure out their type, especailly Jessy the cow girl and Slinky the dog with string. I think that's because it's the last one of the Toy Story series. There may be more discription or explanation of them in the first or the second book... So I hope I could read the books on Toy Story 1 & 2.

General Review

It isn't easy to read, but despite some tricky words it is one of the most involving and humorous things I've read in quite a while.
