After watching the preview of the moive ’The Soloist’, I got interested in the real story of a homeless two-string violinist. I yahooed and youtubed his name. I found CBS 60 minutes about Mr. Ayers and Mr. Lopez. Their story is already well-known in the US. Their unlikely friendship is one of the rare urban fables. It is about a black musician with exceptional talent, whose mind is somewhat complicate and ill. However mentally ill this street musician may be, he still possesses a great passion for playing classical musics. I believe his love for music forces him to live even though he has been ruined and has nothing to lean on. His life is miserable and tragic but his music is pleasing and comforting. He may have gone from the heaven of high art society to the near hell in downtown LA, but his soul can be freed from the evil of his mental illness through the redemptive power of music.

Mr. Lopez’s role should not be underestimated. His patience and effort also helped Mr. Ayers to be safer and healthier. Because of his unfaltering friendship, Mr. Ayers has a lot more sheet musics and musical intruments he can play with. The safe shelter where he can stay and play is the least but best thing that Mr. Lopez wanted to give him.

His love for music and Mr. Lopez’s friendship make the once lost bum’s heart beating here and now.
