Second Foundation is the third volume of Asimov's Foundation Triology. After the abrupt intermittent by the Mule, invincible mental power mutant, Second Foundationers tried to save Hari Seldon's Plan to deliver the humanity from the endless chaos of ignorance and violence. The Mule's mental power, which can change people's emotion to his advantage, was hard to defeat. Nearly two hundred year old Second Foundation faced the extinction by the mutant. 

Asimov is a genius in that in 1950s he alreday foresaw the advent of neuroscience. These days neurology and brain science are still the uncharted fields, but these are the new frontier of science that should be explored and discovered. After reading the book through, I became immensely interested in that field. Now lots of scientists from various fields are studying human brain from physiology and pshchiatry to electronical and mechanical engineering. Brain science would be the next space race in which virtually all industrial nations want to compete.
